3D Analysis of Craniofacial Development
Optical High-Resolution Episcopic Microscopy Craniofacial Research in 3D
HREM in Craniofacial Studies
HREM offers a unique approach to 3D imaging, by imaging the block face it allows reconstruction in resolution and contrast that may have been difficult with conventional techniques. Imaging soft tissue, bone and cartilage together is simple and effective with HREM achieving resolutions of 1 micron voxel sizes.
HREM is ideal for high throughput congenital defect studies such as cleft palette, craniosynthesis or facial symmetry.
Benefits of HREM for Craniofacial Research
High-Resolution Imaging of Complex Anatomy
Combine High-Resolution 2D sections with 3D data to provide details of cranial bones, cartilage and soft tissue. Ideal for detecting subtle abnormalities or asymmetry in facial morphology.
Preserved Spatial Context
Block face imaging provides consistent and precise 3D anatomical structures, with no warping or mid-alignment of features. Supporting accurate morphometric analysis of a skull shape and volume.
Ideal for Developmental & Generic Studies
Visualise craniofacial development at different stages of embryonic development, assess phenotypes in Craniofacial defects (e.g cleft pallet).
Compatible with Bone, Cartilage and Soft Tissue
HREM is robust against dense tissue and bone, enabling the comparison of facial bones, dental elements and soft tissue components in one structure. With flexible section thickness and resolution.
